Some people feel a responsibility to not be a stumbling block to others. So people in authority may choose to abstain from something because of that. What should a pastor do if someone is offended that they sit on the porch and have a drink with someone else and word gets around. People looking up to them may also be influenced by the fact that they do drink and then choose to drink against their conscious. [drinking can be substituted with something else as well]
