What should be done if a smart boy [13-15], with below avg social aptitude or desire to gain one refuses to do anything except video games? The parents believe they are responsible, and are held responsible, for his performance- or lack of it. So the parent[s] provide a structure of rules that the child despises in an effort to get him to do hw and interact with others. Is this a crutch? The child is not coming up with ways to interact themselves. Is this putting them at a disadvantage?
