Harley Daviodsons are supposedly self-sabotaged in their engine timing to create the "haley noise". While consumer demand is a logical way of determining what to produce from a financial standpoint, perhaps it assumes that people are rational/have community or nature in mind as well. Ok, no, but if the idea was to better the world, maybe. Like why would a consumer purchase a Harley with a badly timed engine with, assumingly poorer gas milage and therefore a producer of more emissions as well as more noise pollution, if they cared about the environment their friends and themselves lived in? Are these people selfish to the point of disturbing other people with noise and polluting the air more than necessary? Perhaps culture does not train people to seriously weigh these factors into decision making.
